A far-reaching analysis and classification of the global lithography systems market by technology (ArF Dry, ArF Immersion, KrF, EUV, and i-line), by end-user (foundry, memory, and IDM), and by geography (APAC, Europe, and the US). The report also presents a corresponding detailed analysis of the top vendors in the market, including ASML, Canon, and Nikon.

Technavio has released its new market research report, global lithography systems market, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 0.28% between 2015 and 2019. Surge in demand for semiconductor ICs for different applications, such as communication, consumer electronic devices, memory devices, and sensor devices is driving the need for the lithography systems. APAC leads the global market for lithography systems, accounting for 71% of the overall market share. Factors such as the solid presence of semiconductor IC manufacturers in APAC is one of the major reasons for the high revenue contribution from this region.

“Of late, the market is witnessing a huge rise in the prices of lithography systems. Reduction in node sizes has led to increased adoption of high-resolution techniques, which has affected the cost litho functions and processes. The double-patterning technique increases the litho cost per function and hence, the overall cost of patterning. Consequently, the price of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography is 35% higher than the cost of argon fluoride (ArF) immersion lithography,” says Asif Ghani, Lead Analyst, Hardware & Semiconductor, Technavio Research.

The growing demand for compact electronic devices and for large panel displays has increased the demand for ArF and krypton fluoride (KrF) lithography systems. The ArF (ArF Dry and ArF Immersion) segment is the largest revenue generator of the lithography systems market and account for a revenue share of over 77%. The main reason behind the market dominance of ArF excimer lithography systems is the miniaturization of semiconductor ICs.

The leading vendors in the global lithography systems market include ASML, Canon, and Nikon. The market is densely marked with the presence of prominent vendors captivating the majority share in the market. Moreover, the existence of many prominent semiconductor foundries in Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan have made APAC an extremely competitive geography.
