Anti-collision sensors: Key market research findings

  • Increase in demand for autonomous vehicles
  • Growth in usage of radar sensor technology

Technavio’s market research analysts estimate the global anti-collision sensors market to grow at a CAGR of 17% between 2016 and 2020. Increase in the demand for automotive safety especially in driverless and smart cars, has prompted automakers to install these anti-collision sensors in vehicles. SUVs are the major contributor in the anti-collision sensors market due to their integrated automated features and embedded anti-collision sensors. Europe accounts for 47% of the total market revenue, owing to the rising demand for anti-collision sensors from local auto-manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen.

The new market research report from Technavio provides a breakdown and analysis of the anti-collision sensors segments by technology.

“One of the key trends gaining traction in the automobile sector is the growing demand for autonomous vehicles, owing to their self-driving features. China is expected to be the largest market for autonomous vehicles, with approximately 20 million partially autonomous and 10 million fully autonomous vehicles available across the globe. Moreover, vendors such as BMW, and Audi are coming up with 360-degree road surveillance in their luxury vehicles for automatic lane changing,” says Asif Ghani, Lead Analyst, Hardware & Semiconductor, Technavio Research.

Radar sensor technology dominates the anti-collision sensors market, accounting for 42% of the overall market share. Much of this segment’s growth comes from the increasing need for safety measures in automobiles. The increase in the number of road accidents has prompted governments in many countries such as the UK and the US to introduce stringent safety regulations, requiring the installation of anti-collision sensors in automobiles.

The key players in the global anti-collision sensors market include Bosch, Continental, Delphi Automotive, Denso and TRW Automotive. Intense competition prevails in this market due to rapid technological innovations. For instance, Bosch is concentrating on radar sensors due to rising demand, while Delphi Automotive is supplying Volvo cars with its Radar and Camera Sensor Fusion System (RACam).
