Sensor-fusion to Gain Traction in the Global Market for Automotive Radar Sensors, says Technavio

Renewable energy

The global automotive radar sensors market was valued at USD 7 billion in 2016 and is expected to surpass USD 17 billion by 2021, says Technavio.

Technavio has announced its latest market research report on the global  automotive radar sensors market, under its automotive electronics portfolio. This market analysis discusses the major drivers and key emerging trends and offers an analysis of key vendors like Autoliv, Continental, Delphi Automotive, DENSO, HELLA, InnoSenT, NXP Semiconductors, Robert Bosch, Smartmicro, Wistron NeWeb, and ZF-TRW.

According to Neelam Barua, a lead analyst for automotive electronics research at Technavio, “EU and United Nations Economic Commission for Europe have mandated many safety requirements in new vehicles to which the OEMs must adhere to, promting automakers in the market to adopt more assistive safety systems.”

Until recently, the emphasis placed on passive systems was higher than that of active safety systems. However, Euro NCAP currently focuses on advanced safety systems that form a part of active measures rather than passive measures.

Ray-tracing simulation is expected to replace drive testing of automotive radar sensor based systems

Automotive radar sensor-based systems need to be tested under all circumstances and under varied ambient media, to assess their efficacy and effectiveness. Virtual simulation techniques, which involve techniques such as ray tracing, actively reduce the time manufacturers take to market their products.

Hybrid-data fusion of radar sensor and surround view camera systems to be an enabler for vehicular autonomy

Sensor-fusion is the technique of combining information received from many sensors to create a coherent piece of (navigational) information. The best results for decision-making purposes can be obtained by fusing together, or merging, the information collected by all three kinds of sensors – radar sensors, LiDAR sensors, and camera modules (images and videos. Sensor-fusion makes it possible to obtain the maximum possible and most comprehensive data for use by autonomous vehicles.
