Global 3D NAND flash market expected to grow at an impressive CAGR of 92% by 2019, says Technavio

Renewable energy

Technavio’s market research analysts estimate the global 3D NAND flash market to generate revenue worth $9 billion between 2015 and 2019. Factors that can be attributed to this market’s high growth rate is the increasing demand for high non-volatile memory in mobile devices and enterprise servers. APAC leads the global market for 3D NAND flash, accounting for around 76% of the total market share. Much of this region’s growth comes from the high adoption rate of electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops. South Korea, Taiwan, China, and Japan are the key contributors to the market in this region.

The new market research report from Technavio provides a breakdown and analysis of the 3D NAND flash segments by technology.

“The high growth rate of the 3D NAND market has encouraged vendors to make huge investments in the development of 3D NAND fabrication facilities. They are integrating new computing platforms like smartphones, tablets and personal digital assistants with the 3D NAND flash memory. Also several companies like Samsung, SanDisk and Toshiba, and Intel and Micron are expected to make huge investments worth $18 billion in manufacturing 3D NAND over the next four years,” says Navin Rajendra, Lead Analyst, Hardware & Semiconductor, Technavio Research.

Majority of the demand for 3D NAND flash memory comes from the mobile devices segment, which occupies around 73% of the total market share. This demand is estimate to increase during the forecast period due to increasing adoption of high-functioning smartphones, tablet PCs, and notebooks. The mobile device manufacturers are using flash memory chips owing to their durability and reliability in terms of data storage.

The key vendors in the global 3D NAND flash market include Samsung Electronics, Micron Technology, Toshiba, and Intel. With the advancement in NAND flash technology to 3D NAND, OEMs are expected to launch many products using 3D NAND. For instance, Apple is expected to launch a new model in its MacBook series that will be using Samsung 3D V-NAND for data storage. Many other market vendors are expected to foray into the market with similar offerings during the forecast period.
