Automotive Brake-by-wire Systems – Market Analysis, Vendors & Trends

Renewable energy

The global automotive brake-by-wire systems market was valued at USD 2 millions of units in 2016 and is expected to surpass USD 12 millions of units by 2021, says Technavio.

Technavio has announced its latest market research report on the global automotive BBW systems market, under its automotive electronics portfolio. This market analysis discusses the major drivers and key emerging trends and offers an analysis of key vendors like ADVICS, Autoliv-Nissin Brake Systems, Robert Bosch, Continental, Delphi Automotive, Denso, and ZF TRW.

According to Siddarth Jaiswal, a lead analyst for automotive electronics research at Technavio, “BBW systems use sensors to provide more precise, accurate, and quicker response than mechanical systems. By-wire systems use some sensors like the magnetic hall-effect variety by detecting a change in magnetic field, and other sensors like optics-based technologies work by the interference of beams of light.”

The sensors used in BBW systems do not require mechanical or physical contact and so are not subjected to ant limitations. Sensors impart more accuracy, precision, and better response time for by-wire systems than their mechanical counterparts.

IBC system: Replacement for brake assist technologies

ZF TRW, one of the leading automotive suppliers, has introduced an IBC system, which is a vacuum-independent technology to simplify the brake system while enhancing performance. The IBC system is a single integrated unit, which would replace the ESC system along with the vacuum booster assembly, associated cables, sensors, switches, electronic controllers, and vacuum pumps that are required for low or vacuum configurations.

Current high prices for BBW and other ADAS systems to fall fourfold

ADAS systems have shown a gradual price erosion by almost 75% of their prices over the years. Since BBW may also fall under such a category, its current high prices may not hold after the forecast period. It is expected that by 2021, BBW prices would gradually reduce till it reaches half its current pricing and then flat line. The fall in price is likely to increase its adoption.
