Filtered Connectors: Key market research findings

  • Rising trend of miniaturization of devices
  • Proliferation of personal electronic devices

Technavio has released a new market research report on the global filtered connectors market, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7% between 2016 and 2020. Filtered connectors suppress the electromagnetic noise in connectors through the addition of diodes and capacitors. These capacitors separate the interfering high-voltage or frequency noise from the desired lower frequency signals. Filtered connectors can be used in multiple applications such as satellites, avionics systems, communications, missiles, consumer electronics, and medical instruments. APAC dominated the global filtered connectors market in 2015, occupying around 58% of the overall market share. The majority of the revenue from this region is generated due to high consumption of filtered connectors in China and Japan, which have the major manufacturing operations in the region.

“Filtered connector manufacturers are increasingly focusing on developing lighter, smaller, and high-powered connectors. The demand for these miniaturized connectors is gaining traction in the consumer electronics sector, and also in sectors that require high reliability in connectors including military, industrial, and medical facilities. Moreover, the printed circuit board manufacturing technology has led to the micro-miniaturization of conductor lines and spaces for specially processed, build-up, and multilayer high-density interconnect-printed circuits,” says Sunil Kumar Singh, Lead Analyst, Hardware & Semiconductor, Technavio Research.

The global filtered connectors market is going through a rapid proliferation of personal electronic devices. The growing need to stay connected has led to the emergence of Internet of Things (IoT) devices that help connect to each other through wireless capabilities. These wireless connections have given rise to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) challenges such as delivery of data streams undistorted by EMI. The filtered connectors filter the unwanted EMI. Even military applications require high-end filtered connectors to filter the EMI radiated by radar signals sent out by airports and aircraft.

The major players in the global filtered connectors market include Amphenol, API Technologies, Glenair, and TE Connectivity. These market vendors are well established and operate at high economies of scale. The market is highly competitive with the presence of a large number of small and regional vendors. The prominent entities in the market are adopting growth strategies for improving their product portfolio by integrating more optimized technology and aiming to increase their market penetration.
