This market research study presents a comprehensive analysis of the global SONAR module market. The research reports outlines the market shares of key regions including Americas, APAC and EMEA. This industry report also presents an analysis of the key drivers and challenges that influence market growth. The key leading vendors identified in the market are Atlas Elektronik, Kraken Sonar, Kongsberg Maritime, Raytheon, Thales, and Teledyne Reson.

Technavio’s market research analysts estimate the global SONAR module market to grow at a CAGR of 7% between 2016 and 2020. Growth in sea trade and increase in offshore oil and gas exploration activities have boosted the sale of SONAR systems across the globe. The other applications of SONAR include defense, search and recovery missions, naval mine detection and underwater communication. The Americas dominate the global SONAR module market, accounting for 38% of the total market share. Much of this region’s growth is due to the growing investment in UUVs and ASW systems and the focus on improving the safety of marine transportation.

The new market research report from Technavio provides a breakdown and analysis of the SONAR segments by technology.

“Increasing adoption of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) is one of the latest trends in the SONAR module market. Since UUVs are equipped with oceanographic sensors and SONAR systems, the increasing adoption of UUVs worldwide will drive the demand for SONAR systems. UUVs are underwater drones used to for naval mine detection, seabed mapping, seabed mining, underwater mine searches, and search-and-recovery missions. The navy and military are increasingly adopting UUVs for applications such as naval mine detection and underwater surveillance,” says Sunil Singh, Lead Analyst, Hardware & Semiconductor, Technavio Research

Side-scan SONAR and multi-beam SONAR are the widely-adopted technologies worldwide for detailed seabed mapping. The growing demand for high-resolution images of the seafloor is leading to developments in SONAR technology such as synthetic aperture SONAR (SAS). SAS uses advanced computing and signal processing power to create high-resolution images. SAS SONAR systems combine the successive pings along a known track to form an image with much higher resolution than conventional SONAR. This has prompted vendors to develop SONAR systems with SAS technology, which have the ability to produce the same resolution at all ranges.

The key vendors dominating the global SONAR module market are Atlas Elektronik, Kraken Sonar, Kongsberg Maritime, Raytheon, Thales, and Teledyne Reson. Though this market is in the growth stage, it is highly competitive. Several vendors have adopted strategies such as mergers and acquisitions to acquire technical expertise and resources to develop innovative products
