Increased Implementation of Robotics in the E-Commerce Industry to Accelerate Growth in the Global Robotics EOAT Market: Technavio

Renewable energy

The automotive industry was the largest end-user segment in the global robotics EOAT market in 2015, and is expected to grow at a CAGR of around 9% by 2020, says Technavio.

Technavio has announced its latest market research report on robotics EOAT for the forecast period, 2016-2020. This market analysis, under the robotics vertical, discusses the major drivers and key emerging trends that will influence the growth of the global robotics EOAT market during the forecast period. Some of the top vendors listed in this industry analysis include Applied Robotics, SAS Automation, ATI Industrial Automation, and Robotiq.

Among various geographies, APAC will be the fastest-growing region in the global market and is expected to contribute revenues of around USD6 billion by 2020. The region’s high growth can be attributed to the growing number of initiatives such as the adoption of green packaging methods by various countries in APAC.

There is an increased implementation of robotics in the e-commerce industry. Robotics technology in the e-commerce sector helps in the faster delivery process with accurate items to the right customer. For instance, Hitachi launched mobile logistics robots that use arms to handle inventory.  The robotic arm can handle objects with many different shapes and sizes and are suitable for high mix and low volume warehouses. It is expected that the robotics will increase their footprints in the e-commerce retailers’ logistics operations during forecast period, especially for packaging and faster delivery applications,” says Bharath Kanniappan, senior industry analyst at Technavio for research on robotics.

This new industry research report from Technavio analyzes some of the key drivers and trends responsible for the growth of this market and its sub-segments.

Growth in popularity of cobots

Traditionally, industrial robots used in packaging applications, were kept behind barriers or cages to prevent contact from humans by accident. The industrial robots are quite expensive, which makes them unaffordable to smaller and mid-size companies. However, collaborative robots, a new family of industrial robots, are inexpensive and economical. They are designed to function collaboratively with humans and are easier to train and do not require a whole infrastructure around them.

Rise in usage of industrial robots in food and beverage industry

Washdown robots with sophisticated EOAT and innovative vision capabilities are becoming popular in the food and beverage industry. FDA’s approval of washdown robots and EOAT for use in direct food contact is one of the most noteworthy developments in the food industry. The washdown robot has smooth surfaces that prevent the food particles to collect on the surface and an end-effector that can be chemically sanitized to make it aseptically clean. The approval of washdown robots in the food industry will enable their adoption in processing and primary packaging applications.

Bot-sourcing

In the last decade, major companies of the US and Europe have outsourced their manufacturing tasks to emerging countries such as China, India, and Mexico due to the low wage and tax advantages. However, the costs are converging now. Factors like keeping inventory requires space, energy, and labor, coupled with rising transportation costs, and duties, have compelled manufacturing companies in the US and Europe to shift operations to their home country. However, the labor costs in these countries are still high. Hence, they are incorporating robotics and artificial intelligence to perform the outsourced operations and tasks.

Some of the other prominent vendors identified in this report are ASS End of Arm Tooling, Bastian Solutions, EMI, DESTACO, Vacucom, Robo-Tool, FIPA, Schunk, Festo, IPR Robotics, Pneubotics, Soft Robotics, and Motion Control Robotics.
