This market research report segments the global transmission electron microscope market by application (material science, life sciences, nanotechnology, semiconductors, and others), by end user (industries, academics, and others), and by geography (APAC, EMEA, and the Americas). Leading vendors in this market are FEI, Hitachi High Technologies, and JEOL.

Technavio’s market research analysts estimate the global TEM market to grow at a CAGR of more than 12% between 2015 and 2019. This market is heavily dependent on the government funding in research projects and is mainly driven by factors like the increased government spending on microscopes in countries like America and China. APAC dominates the global market for transmission electron microscope (TEM), occupying around 38% of the total market share. The government of China’s increasing investment in R&D of material science, life science, nanotechnology, and semiconductors is expected to account for this region’s high market dominance during the forecast period.

The new market research report from Technavio provides a breakdown and analysis of the transmission electron microscope segments by technology.

“Of late, the vendors are integrating the best additional tools for improving the performance of TEMs. TEMs are being technologically upgraded with easy operation, automated functions and imaging software. Companies are introducing new models which are compatible with windows software, so that the control procedures are easy, and user friendly interface,” says Navin Rajendra, Lead Analyst, Hardware & Semiconductor, Technavio Research.

On the basis of applications, material science occupies the largest share of the TEM market, accounting for around 28% of the overall market share. Since TEM aids in the development and discovery of new materials in the material science segment, its demand is envisaged to increase during the forecast period.

The key players in the global TEM market include FEI, Hitachi High Technologies, and JEOL. This market is primarily dominated by large vendors like JEOL and FEI. These vendors together account for nearly 60% of the overall market during the forecast period and focus on manufacturing optical microscopes or hybrid forms of TEM such as STEM. As the cost of manufacturing such microscopes is high, only three vendors currently dominate the market as they have the capability to manufacture advanced versions of TEM such as STEM.
