Competitive vendor landscape

The global market for professional diagnostics is highly fragmented in nature due to intense competition among vendors in the market space. The vendors, both small and large, form partnerships to develop new products and enhance competitiveness. In January 2015, Roche Diagnostics and Foundation Medicine collaborated to strengthen the progress of personalized treatment for people with cancer. Vendors are also undergoing strategic alliances to develop and market test strips and blood glucose meters. The market presents significant opportunities for new players.

“Renting and leasing of most costly professional diagnostics is an effective and convenient purchasing alternative for end-users with limited budgets. End-users, in turn, exclusively use the reagents and consumables of the company that the instruments are purchased from. They increase the flexibility and provide tax benefits to improve the business of manufacturers. Currently, around 70% to 80% of the end-users in the in-vitro diagnostics services lease professional diagnostics,” says Amber Chourasia, a lead analyst at Technavio for research on in-vitro diagnostics.
