Competitive vendor landscape

The global market for chewing gum is characterized by the presence of both, regional and international vendors. However, more than 50% of the global market is controlled by four key vendors including Mars (Wrigley), Mondelēz, Lotte, and Perfetti. While Mars and Mondelēz are US-based, Lotte is based in South Korea, and Perfetti Van Melle is a Dutch-Italian company. North America and Western Europe are the major two markets for these international players.

“Chewing gum manufacturers are gradually shifting their focus from just the taste toward the production of chewing gum with value-added benefits. This has led to the introduction of functional gum, which is gaining momentum in the global market. Although a niche segment, it is expected to grow around 15% by 2018. Nicotine gum and “slimming” gum are some of the key products in this segment,” says Manjunath J, a lead analyst at Technavio for food.
