London, 20 July 2015 – Technavio, a tech-focused research firm, has published a new report on the global outdoor sports GPS device market, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 13% from 2015-2019.

According to the latest report by Technavio, wearable and handheld outdoor sports GPS devices are predominantly used in sports analytics. The technology and software used in these devices help in critical decision-making processes in various games and sports such as golf, football, and tennis. These devices also monitor speed, distance covered, and breathing and heart rates.

“Wearable outdoor sports devices can be used to monitor the fitness and performance activities of on-field players. Devices like the Adidas miCoach, which is equipped with GPS and accelerometer, and Mio continuous heart rate sensors helps in tracking the kick speed, spin, and flight path in football,” says Faisal Ghaus, Vice President of Technavio.

The new Technavio report also highlights the introduction of augmented reality technology, which has taken the experience of using GPS devices to a new level.

“Augmented reality technology allows users to view the real, physical environment live, directly or indirectly, where elements are augmented by computer-generated sensors,” adds Ghaus.
