  • Customization of children’s furniture

Technavio has released a new market research report on the children furniture market in the US, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 4% between 2016 and 2020. Children’s furniture is a segment of the overall furniture market based on product use by a specific target audience, those in the age group of 0-12 years. This has been further sub-segmented into two age-groups: 0-4 years and 5-12 years. The furniture products that contributed the highest revenue in this segment include beds, bunk beds, loft beds, dressers, chests of drawers, chairs, storage system, and bookcases.

The new industry research report from Technavio discusses in detail the key drivers and trends responsible for the growth of this market and its sub-segments.

“Growing environmental consciousness have led to increased demand for eco-friendly furniture and other furnishings. Several manufacturers are going green owing to the awareness of the deforestation effects on climate change and the effects of toxic finishes in the air inside homes. Vendors are offering a wide range of aesthetic furniture constructed using Moso bamboo, which is stronger and harder than most other wood including oak. IKEA sells eco-friendly children’s furniture under the segments small furniture, storage system, and small storage. Similarly Ashley Furniture sells eco-friendly chairs, chests of drawers, desks, dressers, and other storage furniture,” says Brijesh Kumar Choubey, Lead Analyst, Consumer & Retail, Technavio Research

Major vendors such as Home Depot and Lowe’s are putting in efforts to mass customize their furniture by making use of consumer interaction platforms. Vendors like Personal Creations and CustomMade take individual orders and create personalized furniture with the names of the children added to the design. Customers can also order furniture in the colors and themes of their choice. IKEA has come up with an assembly service for customers to add a personal touch to the fittings through customization. This enables customers to suggest modifications in the furniture bought by them.

The key players in the children furniture market in the US are Ashley Furniture HomeStore, Berkshire Hathaway, IKEA, Rooms To Go, and Williams-Sonoma. The market is fragmented and highly competitive with the presence of a few large global players and many local and regional players. The key vendors sell children’s furniture products through their own physical stores and online portals
