London, 06 January 2015 – TechNavio, a tech-focused research firm, has published a new report on the General LED Lighting Market in Brazil, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 42.1 percent from 2014-2019.
The latest report from TechNavio emphasizes the growing preference for eco-friendly bulbs over incandescent and CFL bulbs. Unlike LEDs, incandescent or CFL bulbs use mercury, and once their service life is over, the bulb must be properly disposed of. However, LEDs do not require such careful disposal and therefore are more popular than the older bulbs.
“Governments and local corporations in Brazil have started to make it mandatory to recycle incandescent and CFL bulbs properly,” says Faisal Ghaus, Vice President of TechNavio.
Furthermore, the market is experiencing a shift towards large-diameter sapphire wafers. Previously, two to four inch wafers were being used in the production of LED chips. However, the recent transition to six to eight inch wafers has allowed manufacturers to produce more LED chips per wafer, thus reducing manufacturing costs.
“Since the price wars in the LED market are intensifying, manufacturers will have to focus on cutting costs and making the transition to large-diameter sapphire wafers for LED production,” says Ghaus.
