New process and catalysts are developed to convert acetylene to ethylene at a higher yield rate while reducing the overall cost. Acetylene is also used for producing polyvinyl chloride and polyvinylidene difluoride.
Innovations in storage design and packaging
Extreme care is taken during handling, storing, and transportation of acetylene due to its explosive and high flammability properties. During most phases of chemical production, acetylene gas is transported through pipelines over a short distance. For long distance transport, special cylinders are used where acetylene is pressurized and stored.
