Projected Rise in the Demand for Green Chromatography in the Global Chromatography Market, says Technavio

Renewable energy

The global chromatography market was valued at almost $11 billion in 2015 and is expected to surpass $14 billion by 2020, says Technavio.

Technavio has announced its latest market research report on chromatography for the forecast period, 2016-2020. This market analysis, under the lab equipment vertical, discusses the major drivers and key emerging trends that will influence the growth of the global chromatography market during the forecast period. Some of the top vendors listed in this industry analysis include Agilent Technologies, Bio-Rad Laboratories, Shimadzu Corporation, and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

In terms of geographical analysis, the Americas will account for the largest share of the global market and is expected to reach a revenue of almost $6 billion by 2020. The US and Canada will emerge as the key revenue-generators.

“Green chromatography is becoming increasingly sought-after in the global market. The growing preference for green chromatography is attributable to its enhanced features such as reduction or elimination of solvents, preservatives, reagents, and other chemicals hazardous to humans and the environment. The process enables faster and more energy-efficient analysis without compromising on the performance criteria,” says Amber Chourasia, a lead analyst at Technavio for research on lab equipment.

The new industry research report from Technavio analyzes some of the key drivers and trends responsible for the growth of this market and its sub-segments.

New international certifications for pharmaceutical excipients

Until recently, there was a lack of certifiable good manufacturing practice (GMP) and good distribution practice (GDP) standards for pharmaceutical excipients that make up the bulk of most drug formulations. The pharmaceutical excipients industry launched EXCiPACT, a new certification scheme that grants an independent, one-stop ‘seal of approval’ to pharmaceutical excipients by third-party auditors in 2012. This makes it possible to prove an excipient’s compliance with current GMP and GDP requirements through a single audit. This certification for manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers minimizes risks to customers and helps reduce the burden of audits and costs.

Growing food safety concerns

Among the numerous laboratory analytical instruments used in the food industry such as food hygiene, mass spectrometry, materials characterization, and spectroscopy, the separations category account for the majority share. It comes in the form of many chromatography techniques including HPLC, LPLC, GC, ion chromatography, FC, and thin-layer chromatography. Gas chromatography is one of the key analytical techniques that finds increasing applications in the food sector. It permits complex organic substances to be separated and identified quickly and at less cost.

New product launches

The global chromatography market is undergoing continuous product improvements and innovations. This trend can be attributed to vendors introducing new products that perform fast chromatographic procedures. This has, in turn, increased the area of applications such as proteomics and metabolomics. Thermo Fisher Scientific introduced the Thermo Scientific Dionex Integrion HPIC system in 2016. It delivers features previously available only on high-end Thermo Scientific systems. With a simple, flow-based plumbing layout and logical and integrated performance features, the Dionex Integrion HPIC offers fast run times in a reliable and robust system.

Some of the other prominent vendors identified in this report are Becton, Dickinson and Company, Helena Laboratories, Pall Corporation, Perkin Elmer, Phenomenex, Regis Technologies, Repligen, Tosoh Corporation, VWR International, Waters Corporation, W.R Grace and Co., and ZirChrom Separations.

This research report includes an in-depth analysis, market shares, and sizes of the sub-segments and geography. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the key companies, including their market shares, business overview, and key financials. The market study also offers a detailed analysis of key drivers, challenges, and opportunities influencing this market.
