The new market research report from Technavio presents a breakdown and analysis of the table tennis equipment segments based on the product.

“Growing popularity of headis and header table tennis is the latest trend in the global market. Headis is a sport which is a hybrid of soccer and table tennis. It uses the table of table tennis and a seven-inch rubber ball. Players just use their heads to strike the ball. This game, which was started in 2006, is becoming very popular in Europe, especially in Germany. It is currently expanding to South America and Africa, and the number of players is increasing across Germany, Luxembourg, France, Spain, and England,” says Brijesh Kumar Choubey, Lead Analyst, Consumer & Retail, Technavio Research.

In 2015, the racket segment accounted for more than 58% of the overall market revenue to become the key revenue generating vertical of the global market. The table tennis racket, which is also known as paddle and bat, is the biggest segment in the table tennis equipment market, as the racket plays a key role in the game. The racket includes rubber and blades which can be replaceable. Usually, players choose rubber based on their style of play. Frequent replacement of rubber by professional players coupled with the innovation in the rubber and blade will fuel growth of this market segment by 2020.

The key vendors in the global table tennis equipment market include Butterfly, Double Happiness (DHS), DONIC, JOOLA and STIGA. The market is primarily dominated by a few large vendors. With the increasing popularity of the sport, vendors will have ample opportunities to branch out in the global market. Established vendors in the market are trying to increase their market shares by sponsoring table tennis rackets, balls, and tables in major table tennis tournaments like the Olympics, World Championship, and other national championships tournaments. These tournaments have proved to be one of the biggest platforms for the manufacturers to promote their products.
