Technavio’s market research analysts predict the global gaming peripherals market to grow at a CAGR of more than 13% between 2016 and 2020. The demand for gaming peripherals is spurred primarily by the partnerships formed between gaming peripheral and console manufacturers. The growing demand for Xbox, PS4, and other gaming consoles has resulted in an increase in the sales of gaming peripherals. Gaming console manufacturers such as Sony and Microsoft not only manufacture their own peripherals but also sell licenses to prominent gaming peripheral manufacturers to increase the reach of these peripherals. During 2015, the global gaming peripherals market was dominated by the Americas with a market share of around 41%. The market in Americas is expected to grow further owing to the rapidly growing e-sports league in the region.

The new market research report from Technavio presents a breakdown and analysis of the gaming peripherals segments based on the technology.

“The market is currently witnessing the rapid adoption of over-the-ear headphones. These headphones are compatible with most of the latest technologies. The rise in disposable income, especially in developed countries, and the growing gaming market is augmenting the demand for over-the-ear headphones in the global market. There is also a huge demand for wireless over-the-ear headphones equipped with Bluetooth, NFC technology, and touch-sensing controls. Their durability, flexibility, and lightweight features of over-the-ear headphones and their availability in aesthetic designs is expected to further fuel the demand for over-the-ear headphones during the forecast period,” says Ujjwal P. Doshi, Lead Analyst, Media & Entertainment, Technavio Research.

By 2020, wired segment will continue its dominance over the global market as key revenue generator by accounting for almost 54% of the overall market share. Wired headsets are considered to have faster response and less input lag. Though the lag is considered to be minimal, hard-core gamers or professional gamers are reluctant to compromise on this aspect of gaming. However, the market’s value is expected to decline over the forecast period due to mobility issues of wired peripherals and the increasing popularity of its wireless counterparts.

The key vendors in the global gaming peripherals market include Corsair Components, Logitech, Mad Catz Interactive, Razer, and SteelSeries. This market is highly competitive as major vendors are competing against each other to acquire a greater market share. At present, the market is witnessing an increase in demand for premium gaming peripherals whose cost is significantly higher than a regular peripheral, leading to better profit margins for the market players. To sustain themselves in this intensely competitive landscape, vendors should focus on localization of gaming peripherals for different geographical regions depending on the gaming culture existing in the region.
