The global virtual desktop infrastructure market was valued at over $5 billion in 2016 and is expected to surpass $8 billion by 2021, says Technavio.

Technavio’s data center portfolio has announced its latest market research report on virtual desktop infrastructure for the forecast period, 2017-2021. This market analysis discusses the major drivers and key emerging trends that will influence the growth of the VDI market during the forecast period. Some of the top vendors listed in this industry analysis include Citrix, Huawei, Microsoft, and VMware.

In terms of geographical analysis, the Americas will be the largest region in the global market, reaching revenues of almost $4 billion by 2021. The US, Latin America, and Canada will emerge as the key revenue-generators.

The introduction of cloud-based VDI solutions is helping SMEs to adopt low-cost systems into their businesses. SMEs are deploying VDI solutions easily and can also pay for the service on a monthly basis. Various vendors are offering attractive prices to organizations for the easy adoption of VDI in their business. For instance, AWS partnered with Citrix to offer its workspace solution starting at $21 per month per user,” says Abhishek Sharma, a lead analyst at Technavio for research on the data center.

The new industry research report from Technavio analyzes some of the key drivers and trends responsible for the growth of this market and its sub-segments.

Workplace flexibility and business agility

Business organizations are focusing on smooth workflow systems that reduce time zone barriers and changes in work locations. The VDI environment eliminates the need to manage thousands of individual systems and enables centralized management of resources in enterprise data centers and server rooms. These systems ensure access to official and confidential data through the personal devices of the workforce. They also provide higher flexibility, simplified backup operations, greater security control and compliance, faster problem resolving capabilities, rapid deployment of virtualized desktop, and application on-demand services to any devices.

Improved security

In the VDI infrastructure systems, images are stored and processed through a centralized data center infrastructure environment and end-users can access information through mobile devices and PCs from the server room or data center. Data theft or endpoint data loss can be prevented as the data is not stored on end-user devices and can be secured from threats such as viruses and malware. VDI deployments provide flexibility to organizations that can restrict downloading of data to end-user devices in turn protecting the database from harmful content. It is easier to configure firewall policies and antivirus agents on one master image rather than maintaining antivirus for various systems.

Ease of operating and managing virtual infrastructure

VDI systems enhance user experiences that include benefits like application compatibility and authorization to access to data and applications from any location. The user access is modified through a centralized management software, and additional are deployed to low operational costs and to ensure enhanced scalability. The administrators can remove or change any software based on requirements making the maintenance of these systems easy and allows users the flexibility to reboot systems to restore operations.

Other prominent vendors identified in this report are Atlantis Computing, Centerm, Cisco Systems, dinCloud, HP, IGEL Technology, LISTEQ, NComputing, NetApp, Pano Logic, Parallels, Red Hat, Stratodesk, and Verixo Technologies.
