According to Siddharth Jaiswal, a lead analyst for automotive electronics research at Technavio, “Owing to the growing awareness about the comfort level and heritage of ultra-luxury motorcycles, a growing number of consumers around the world are purchasing them as they are more powerful and efficient than traditional motorcycles. All ultra-luxury motorcycles sold by the OEMs have ABS in them. The demand for ultra-luxury motorcycles with ABS is increasing in the global market owing to the increase in touring and demands for safety quotient needed from the vehicle.”
The adoption of ABS is the highest in ultra-luxury motorcycles, owing to the high cost associated with the technology. In addition, this segment is not price sensitive because of which the adoption of advance ABS will be high in this segment as compared to the other segments. For instance, OEMs like Harley-Davidson, BMW Motorrad, Honda Motor, Triumph, Ducati Motor, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, KTM, Indian Motorcycles, and Moto Guzzi already feature ABS in their premium motorcycle variants.

Development of one-channel ABS in emerging markets
Until recently, ABS was limited to premium motorcycles, owing to the high cost associated with the device. As a result, cost was the fundamental barrier to the adoption of motorcycle ABS in the emerging market. Apart from the cost, the requirement of hydraulic brakes was also slowing down the adoption of ABS. The development of one channel ABS by Bosch allows the installation of motorcycles ABS as this unit is dedicated to one wheel, which has hydraulic brakes. Such innovations also help reduce the overall cost of the ABS unit.
Discounts on insurance premium for motorcycles with ABS
Insurance providers are offering discounts on motorcycle insurance, if the vehicle is equipped with ABS. The trend of insurance discounts is an incentive for the growth of the ABS market as it benefits both the parties involved. It enables the insurance provider to pass the benefit of the less claim to the motorcycle riders having ABS, to increase the adoption of ABS, which eventually helps insurance provider through fewer claims.
