“One of the most interesting trends in this market is the launch of active denial system (ADS) or heat ray by the US military. ADS is a directed-energy weapon used primarily for crowd control and perimeter security. It fires a directed beam, heating the skin of targets, making them uncomfortable. Manufacturers are also coming up with non-lethal pellet guns that require low maintenance and do not overheat,” says Sriram Mohan, Lead Analyst, Aerospace & Defense, Technavio Research.
Law enforcement non-lethal weapons cover a major portion of the global market, accounting for around 52% of the total market share. The police authorities are using these weapons to disperse crowds, prevent riots, and control protests against governments. Bean bag rounds, tear gas, shotguns with non-lethal cartridges, and salt shells are some of the most-widely used non-lethal weapons. Of late, the police forces are using Tasers to destabilize prisoners and for controlling one-on-one conflicts.
