Industrial lobe pump: Key market research findings

  • Replacement of cavity pumps drives market growth
  • Wastewater treatment segment is the largest end user in the market
  • Key vendors – Alfa Laval, Börger, Boyser, GEA Group, and Wright Flow Technologies

Technavio’s market research analysts predict the global industrial lobe pump market to grow at a CAGR of over 13% between 2016 and 2020. The growth in the market is driven primarily by the replacement of cavity pumps with lobe pumps for the production of biofuels. The increasing rate of replacement can be attributed to features of lobe pumps such as the ability to run dry for a period of time, lower maintenance and repair costs, and low space consumption. By 2020, the APAC will continue its dominance over the global industrial lobe pump market with a market share of around 43%. The growth in end-user segments such as oil and gas, wastewater treatment, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical will augment the demand for lobe pumps in the APAC region during the forecast period.

The new market research report from Technavio presents a breakdown and analysis of the lobe pumps segments based on the end user.

“The switch to non-sanitary lobe pumps in the chemical industry is the latest trend in the market. Non-sanitary lobe pumps involve maintenance-in-place (MIP), which allows all parts that are constantly in contact with fluids to be replaced on the site without the removal of any pipe systems or drive mechanisms. This also allows the use of sacrificial wear plates and other features for easy maintenance and cost effectiveness over the entire lifecycle of the pump,” says Anju Ajaykumar, Lead Analyst, Heavy Industry, Technavio Research.

During 2015, the wastewater treatment segment accounted for almost 66% of the market to become the dominant shareholder. The constant demand for freshwater and rising environmental concerns are expected to spur an increase in the demand for lobe pumps. The demand is likely to originate from expansion units, emerging plants, and upgrade units. Rising population, urbanization, an increase in manufacturing activities and oil and gas production are factors that will drive the development of the water and wastewater industry and subsequently the lobe pumps industry.

Alfa Laval, Börger, Boyser, GEA Group, and Wright Flow Technologies comprise the key vendors in the market. Due to the presence of numerous international and regional players, the global industrial lobe pump market is highly fragmented.  The market is characterized by the presence of well-established global vendors with diversified product portfolios. The competition in the market is projected to intensify with an increase in product and service extensions, technological innovations, and M&As.
