Electrical resistor: Key market research findings

  • APAC dominates the market geographically
  • Power supplies account for a majority of the market’s revenue
  • Key vendors – Cressall, KOA, Murata, TE Connectivity, and Vishay

Technavio’s market research analysts predict the global electrical resistor market to grow at a CAGR of more than 6% between 2016 and 2020. The growth in T&D networks across the globe is the fundamental driving force behind the growth of this market. Electrical resistors are widely used in the power industry for electricity generation, transmission, and distribution purposes. The demand for electricity has risen substantially worldwide, leading to the need for more T&D networks. During 2015, the global market for electrical resistors was dominated by APAC, which accounted for a market share of around 68%.

The new market research report from Technavio presents a breakdown and analysis of electrical resistor segments based on the end-user.

“In this market, there is an increasing trend to decentralize the electricity supply, which is spurred by efforts to provide electricity to remote areas like mountainous regions. In such areas, the remoteness of the villages does not enable connection to a centralized power grid. As a result, the demand for decentralized (distributed) energy supply (DES) is rising, especially for distributed electricity generation (DG) by using local energy sources such as renewable energy or carrying fuel to a point at/near the location of consumption where it is converted into electricity and distributed locally,” says Anju Ajaykumar, Lead Analyst, Heavy Industry, Technavio Research.

During 2015, the power supplies segment was the largest end-user vertical with almost a 20% share of the overall market revenue. The primary function of a power supply is to convert one form of electrical energy to another and, as a result, are sometimes referred to as electric power converters. Power supplies can be either discrete, stand-alone devices or may be built into a larger device with their loads.

The key vendors in the market include Cressall, KOA, Murata, TE Connectivity, and Vishay. Vendors in the market are constantly looking for ways to enhance their quality by focusing on innovative designs and technology. The highly competitive environment has prompted many vendors to increase their R&D investment to introduce innovative products into the market, essentially catering to the requirements of power generation from the renewable energy sector.
