Military tank containers: Key market research findings

  • EMEA dominates the market geographically
  • Refrigerated tank containers account for a majority of the market revenue
  • Key vendors – Klinge, Krampitz Tanksystem, Textainer, UralVagonZavod, and Westerwalder Eisenwerk

Technavio’s market research analysts predict the global military tank containers market to grow at a CAGR of around 4% between 2016 and 2020. The growth of this market can be accredited to the location of war zones in rugged and water-scarce regions, which has necessitated the use of tank containers. Water stored in large insulated tank containers does not get heated or infected during transportation through rugged deserts as compared with small uninsulated containers. Water is a pre-requisite to support military missions. In nuclear or chemical battlefields, water requirements increase significantly as personal hygiene and sanitization of equipment involve large quantities of water. During 2015, the global military tank containers market was dominated by EMEA with a market share of more than 43%. The rise in the number of peacekeeping missions in the Middle Eastern countries will fuel the demand for military tank containers in EMEA during the forecast period.

The new market research report from Technavio presents a breakdown and analysis of the military tank container segments based on the type.

“The emergence of armed military tank containers is expected to contribute to the growth of the global market. Military tank containers are suitable of crossing rough terrain and perform high-speed operations on rough and rocky roads. Potential attack on the tanks, however, pose significant threats to the goods being transported and can prevent the supplies from reaching their destinations. In March 2016, the US Army acquired a number of shipping containers, which have been converted to remote weapon stations. As a result, each container is equipped with an anti-tank weapon, a grenade launcher, and a machine gun, making them capable of detecting attacks and responding to them,” says Abhay Kumar Singh, Lead Analyst, Aerospace & Defense, Technavio Research.

By 2020, the refrigerated tank container segment will account for more than 58% of the overall market revenue to become the key revenue generating segment of the market.  In order to maintain the usability of temperature-sensitive tank supplies, Klinge, a major vendor of the market, signed a contract with the US Army to design and develop a new refrigerated tank container that can keep supplies at their optimal temperatures. These refrigerated containers are made up of components that have been certified by the container transport industry, and they require very little maintenance.

The key vendors in the global military tank containers market include Klinge, Krampitz Tanksystem, Textainer, UralVagonZavod, and Westerwalder Eisenwerk. In-house manufacturing capabilities, newer technologies, global footprint network, product offerings, R&D investments, and strong client base have become key areas of focus in order to gain an edge over competitors. The growth of vendors is dependent on the market conditions, government support, and industry development. Thus, vendors should focus on expanding geographically and improving their products.
