TechNavio, an independent tech-focused global research firm, finds that energy drink consumption in Brazil is high and growing, leading to an overall CAGR of 21.24 percent from 2014-2018 for all of Latin America.
Brazilians consumed 43.28 million gallons of energy drink in 2013, and this number is expected to reach 121.15 million by 2018, say senior TechNavio analysts.
“In terms of consumption, in 2013 the Energy Drink market in Latin America was dominated by Brazil, accounting for a 56.50 percent share of the overall market. The launch of new energy drinks in PET bottles and the flourishing socioeconomic middle class are driving the Energy Drink market in Brazil. Also, intensive advertising campaigns and innovative packaging by companies such as Red Bull are attracting the young people.”
The Energy Drink market in Brazil is highly fragmented and has been witnessing significant growth in the past few years. In 2013, the market was dominated by Red Bull, which accounted for more than 50 percent of the total market. Red Bull was followed by Coca-Cola, with the third position being held by TNT, owned by the local Brazilian company Grupo Petrópolis. Monster, owner of the world’s second highest selling energy drink, held the fourth position in the Brazilian Energy Drink market.
Latin America’s urban population and growing middle class are other factors that are also influencing an increase in energy drink consumption in the area. More than 50 percent of Latin America’s population falls under middle class and the increased popularity of energy drinks, specifically among young people, are leading to projected revenues of US$3.93 billion by 2018.
