Gas analyzer: Key market research findings

  • Increased implementation of TDLAs
  • Rise of gas analyzers with multiple gas analysis capability
  • Leading vendors are ABB, Emerson Electric, GE Analytical Instruments, Siemens AG, and Thermo Fisher Scientific

Technavio has released a new report on the global gas analyzer market, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 3% between 2016 and 2020. The tunable diode laser analyzer (TDLA) is a single line spectroscopy technique is the latest technology used to detect and measure gases at a low air density. It offers several measurement advantages such as fast in-situ measurement, highly stable calibration, and less cross interference due to the presence of other gases. The TDLA technology incorporated in gas analyzers can measure low-range concentration gases in critical and harsh environments, including the natural gas processing and transportation, refineries, petrochemicals, LNG, and specialty gas industries. The Americas will continue it dominance in the region and is envisaged to account for around 44% of the total market share by 2020. The low crude oil and natural gas prices have led to increased investments in chemicals and petrochemicals plants in the US, and the country is replacing most of its coal-fired power plants with natural gas-based power plants.

The new industry research report from Technavio discusses in detail the key drivers and trends responsible for the growth of this market and its sub-segments.

“Of late, the vendors are launching gas analysis systems that can integrate multiple gas analyses into a single equipment at a reasonable price. A gas analyzer that detect multiple species of gases reduces the number of systems required in a power plant and lowers the running costs. Such benefits encourage end-users to adopt gas analyzers with multiple gas analysis and detection capabilities. Recently, Gasera launched Gasera One which is a portable device and can measure hydrocarbons, fluorocarbons, organics, VOCs, anesthetics, and corrosives at low levels of concentrations. Its main applications include border security, climate change prevention, and occupational safety,” says Bharath Kanniappan, Lead Analyst, Industrial Automation, Technavio Research

The oil and gas segment dominated the gas analyzer market and accounted for around 29% of the total market share during 2015. Gas analyzers measure the corrosive mixture of water vapor and gasses and are used to prevent corrosion in a natural gas infrastructure. Since the accurate measurement of gasses extends the life of the infrastructure and bolsters safety, there will be a continuous demand for gas analyzers from this market segment.

Due to the presence of several vendors, this market appears highly fragmented. To sustain their presence in the market, international vendors are compelled to differentiate their products from their competitors’ and the presence of regional vendors increases the level of competition in the market. To gain a considerable share of the market, key players have started adopting M&A strategies to bolster their market shares.
