The top three revenue contributing product segments are discussed below:

Air conditioners

The global data center liquid cooling market by air conditioners was valued at almost $1 billion in 2015 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of over 12% by 2020. The most commonly used air conditioner systems in data centers are chilled water systems. The water is provided by chilled water plants called chiller units installed in the data center building. In the process of liquid-based cooling, the cold air is circulated inside the building through CRAH, where the water is supplied through the chiller unit. Row- and rack-based cooling is adopted to reduce the heat dispersed by the server at source. In this process, the chilled water-based closed control CRAC units.

The increasing adoption of chilled water-based precision air conditioners in data centers will be the primary driver for this market segment. The chilled water precision air conditioners work efficiently irrespective of the rack power density. Air conditioners used as liquid-based cooling techniques is resulting in the increased use of CRAH units in data centers in conjunction with chiller units,” says Abhishek Sharma, a lead analyst at Technavio for research on data center.

Chillers

The global data center liquid cooling market by chiller units was valued at around $335 million in 2015 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of more than 24% by 2020. The increased use of chillers that supply refrigerated water will lead to the growth of this market segment. These systems utilize heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) and CRAH systems to cool data centers. The running of multiple blade servers simultaneously is possible due to the installation of chillers integrated with a CRAC and CRAH unit. The manufacturers are designing chillers that can function without power outages and are installing backup generators for cooling systems to ensure their continuous operations.

Cooling towers

The global data center liquid cooling market by cooling towers was valued at around $1 billion in 2015 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of about 11% by 2020. The combination of cooling towers with chillers or condenser units will be the primary driver for this market segment. The integration of these systems helps to lower the heat dissipated by data center equipment. Water-cooled chillers are considered more energy-efficient as the heat levels in these systems are rejected near wet-bulb temperatures. Cooling towers are used with HVAC systems that use multiple water source heat pumps, sharing a common piping water loop. These systems also help cooling operating units of the data center by expelling hot air to the external environment.
