This market research report presents a detailed segmentation of the global glass ceramics market by end-user (housing and construction, aerospace, electrical, medical, and optical) and by geography (APAC, Europe, North America, and ROW). The leading vendors in this market are Corning, ILVA Glass, NEG, OHARA, and Schott.

Technavio has released a new market research report on the global glass ceramic market, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6% between 2016 and 2020. The market for glass ceramic is primarily driven by their increasing the applications of glass ceramics in aerospace, housing and construction, and medical industries. Glass ceramic is preferred over other conventional ceramics owing to its capability to make use of high-speed plastic forming processes that is manufactured in the glass industry like blowing, pressing, and rolling to create complex shapes. APAC dominates the global glass ceramic market, owing to growing demand from the construction sectors in countries like India and China.

The new industry research report from Technavio discusses in detail the key drivers and trends responsible for the growth of this market and its sub-segments.

“Ceramic devices and implants are also very much in demand by the medical industry. A number of surgeons prefer to use ceramic implants as they are very strong, resistant to corrosion and also bio-compatible. The FDA has approved the use of ceramics in procedures such as knee and hip replacements.  Ceramic parts are also used in spinal implants and phalangeal joints. Glass ceramics are also used to make implantable sensors. With an increase in osteoporosis cases worldwide, the demand for glass ceramics in medical applications will grow steadily during the forecast period,” says Chandrakumar Badala Jaganathan, Lead Analyst, Chemicals & Materials, Technavio Research

The housing and construction segment is the largest user of glass ceramics and is expected to grow at a CAGR of close to 7% during the forecast period. Raw materials are manufactured from a variety of waste sources and easily available. The most common products are ceramic tiles and ceramic abrasives, both of which are widely used by the construction industry for interior and exterior applications. For instance, Neoparium, a crystallized version of glass ceramic, is impermeable to liquids and can withstand harsh environments easily.
