Global mining chemicals market for grinding aids

In 2015, the grinding aids segment accounted for around 46% of the global mining chemicals market. In processing of mineral, alkanol amines, glycols, esters of glycols, alkanol amines, and carboxylates of alkanol amines are used as grinding aid chemicals. The use of these products reduces cohesion and adhesion in the ore slurry that leads to significant gains in the grinding productivity. The benefits of grinding aids include improved ore throughput in grinding circuit, reduced energy use at a given throughput, improved extraction, reduced maintenance, improved environmental performance, and decreased capital expenditures.

On the basis of hydrophilic and hydrophobic chemical characteristics, sulfide collectors are used to separate minerals. The chemicals follow to the surface of minerals and convert them to a hydrophobic form, which facilitates easy and efficient extraction of minerals from the ore solution. Fatty acids, oils, petroleum sulfonates, xanthates, fatty amines, and dithiophosphates are commonly used as collectors in mineral processing and xanthates account for the most widely used sulphide collector chemical globally. Flocculants based on ionic charge can be of three types including anionic, cationic, and non-ionic.
