Automotive eCall market in EMEA

EMEA dominated the global automotive eCall market by accounting a share of around 56% in the market. European nations such as Slovenia and Germany are the leaders in adopting an eCall system in automobiles. The EU has implemented many projects to ensure a smooth transition from manual eCall systems to automatic eCall systems. The demand and usage of automotive telematics in the EU have increased mainly due to the growing safety concerns among both consumers and governments, regarding the passengers’ safety. To address the cybersecurity issues associated with connected cars, the European Parliament has passed the Network and Information Security (NIS) directive that overlooks the standards for cybersecurity in connected cars, audits, and infrastructure support for connected car M2M platform. The EU regulations on connected cars include the mandatory installation of eCall in all new passenger cars from April 2018 and the mandatory installation of black boxes or event data recorders in all new cars from October 2015, by the Department for Transport in the UK.

According to Siddarth Jaiswal, a lead analyst at Technavio, specializing in research on automotive electronics,The European nations will witness the highest adoption of eCall systems in automobiles due to the mandatory installation of eCall and availability of support infrastructure for successful application of eCall systems. Besides this, the European Union has also banned data roaming charges across several European nations, in a way, setting up a favorable environment for interoperable eCall systems.”

Automotive eCall market in the Americas

The TPS eCall systems will likely dominate the automotive eCall market in the Americas during the forecast period due to bundled offerings from OEMs. The American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is likely to follow the footsteps of the EU and mandate installation of eCall systems in automobiles toward the end of the forecast period. The major contributors to the eCall market in the Americas are the developed countries such as the US and Canada where the adoption of premium vehicles is quite high. The Americas is the hub for automobile producers and there is a rapid development in the market with automobile manufacturers installing telematics systems that offer eCall as an optional feature in automobiles. Vendors such as Ford and GM are equipping their vehicles with in-built telematics systems that include a voluntary eCall system, while the OEMs are providing TPS eCall system as it is yet to be standardized in the region. The implementation of new business models by insurance companies depends on the eCall systems as a source for their data analytics platform will encourage the insurance companies to promote the installation of eCall systems.

Automotive eCall market in APAC

In the APAC region, Russia will be the first country to implement eCall systems, followed by South Korea, China, and Japan.  APAC is experiencing slow growth rate due to the absence of infrastructure support for the implementation of eCall systems, however, the market is likely to witness a healthy growth during the forecast period, because of the rising demand from emerging markets such as Japan, China, India, and South Korea. TPS eCall systems will dominate APAC owing to the increased thrust from OEMs toward pre-installed telematics systems in automobiles. The network coverage of high-speed 3G and 4G services is very low in this region, which will increase public-private partnerships for the development of adequate infrastructure in the region, subsequently driving the growth of eCall systems during the forecast period.

The top leading vendors operating in the global automotive eCall market are:
