London, 16 October 2015 – Technavio has published a new report on the set-top box (STB) market in Brazil, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of above 37% from 2015-2019.
About the Report
According to the latest report by Technavio, the government of Brazil has scheduled to subsidize the STBs from digital terrestrial television (DTT). The money for the subsidies will be taken from the national budget, which can vary from $250 million to $2 billion depending on the number of families enrolled in the Bolsa Familia program.
“Presently there are around 11 million families that will benefit from the subsidization of STBs in Brazil. This will provide a major boost for the rise in the number of shipments of STBs,” says Faisal Ghaus, Vice President of Technavio.
The latest report by Technavio also accentuates the increasing digitization of TV networks, which offer consumers with a wider range of channels and better picture quality.
“The Brazilian government is planning to make the digitization of cable TV compulsory by 2018, which will significantly increase the demand for STBs,” adds Ghaus.
