For anyone who’s searched for an employer in the past few years—or on the flip side, for any employers who have hunted for new hires—it will come as no surprise that the recent flourishing of the Online Web Recruitment Market has made paper applications all but obsolete. Indeed, as of 2012 the percentage of employers citing “print” as their recruitment source of choice has sunk to just 2 percent, while a combined 40 percent favored online job boards, social media, and company career pages.
It’s not hard to understand the reason for these numbers. With the exponential increases in Internet use, social recruiting platforms, and online advertising revenue, it’s easy to leverage the web in order to hire the right talent—and doing so comes with a number of undeniable advantages.
The most obvious benefits are:
- easy referrals
- higher chances of striking the best hires
- optimum candidate engagement
- mutually beneficial two-way communication
There’s also of course, the matter of cost. Traditional recruitment in a newspaper costs around US$100 for a three-liner advertisement for a day. Online job boards cost the same amount for running an advertisement for at least 30 days, or better yet—many are free.
So, do online recruitment solutions have the potential to overtake the job recruitment market entirely?
There’s clearly still some room in the world of recruitment for more traditional hiring methods like referrals and agencies. That said, it’s our guess this will change as online recruitment vendors iron out kinks like a potential lack of security and lack of integrated recruitment strategies.
After all, considering its ease of usage, cost-effectiveness, and wide access to a vast pool of potential candidates, there’s no denying the advantages of online recruitment. With this in mind, we are confident in asserting that soon enough, the Online Web Recruitment Market is going to continue growing rapidly for the next few years, and onward.
