Recently, TechNavio analysts conducted a survey of a number of different companies involved in the Mobile Robotics Market to understand the current and future market for Mobile Robotics across the various interest areas.
Specifically, we wanted to know more about how mobile robotics will impact Automotive, Agriculture & Mining, Aerospace & Defense and Healthcare Industries, specifically in the APAC, European and the US markets.
Market Size and Revenue for Mobile Robots
When we asked respondents what they thought the current Mobile Robotics Market was worth, their responses varied. 29 percent believed that the market is worth between US$13-16 billion, while 22 percent of respondents believe that the market is only worth about US$5-7 billion.
However, when asked what the market size will be like in 2020, 66 percent of respondents expect the Mobile Robotics Market to exceed a value of US$ 16 billion.
In terms of revenue breakdown, 59 percent of respondents feel that land robots will dominate over 40 percent of the market. 41 percent of respondents believe that air robots will contribute between 20-30 percent of market revenue. Last but not least, 39 percent of respondents think sea robots will account for 10-20 percent of overall market revenue.
Mobile Robotics Applications
Currently, the Manufacturing Industry uses mobile robots over all other industries, as there are many more aspects in the manufacturing process that can be (and sometimes require) robotic automation. Therefore revenue contribution from this segment is high.
After manufacturing comes the use of robots in the most hazardous environments. For example, law enforcement and military organizations worldwide utilize robots to defuse bombs and investigate suspected hazardous materials instead of using human beings.
When we asked survey respondents which applications are expected to grow in the future, 44 percent believe that mobile robots have a big future in transportation and material handling.
38 percent of respondents also believe that Domestic applications and hazardous environments will play a key role in the development of the Mobile Robotics Market.
What was surprising was the fact that manufacturing is expected to drop to fourth place in the future, with only 21 percent of respondents pegging the manufacturing industry to play an active role in the market.
Mobile Robotics Based on End-Users
Currently, the Automotive Industry contributes more than 30 percent of the revenue to the market followed by Aerospace and Defense according to majority of the respondents.
On the other hand, Aerospace and Defense contribute a higher CAGR to the market followed by Healthcare.
Though the current applications of mobile robotics in the Healthcare domain is limited, 35 percent of respondents expect it to grow rapidly in the future. Aerospace and Defense holds the second spot, with 17.5 percent of respondents believing that technological advancements will make mobile robotics more valuable in this segment.
Mobile Robotics Based on Geography
As most robotic firms have a base in Asian countries such as China, Japan and Korea, the APAC region remains to be the major revenue and CAGR contributor in the mobile robotics market followed by the Americas and EMEA region.
