The global menstrual cups market was valued at USD 1,070 billion in 2016 and is expected to surpass USD 1,300 billion by 2021, says Technavio.

Technavio has announced its latest market research report on the global menstrual cups market, under its health and wellness portfolio. This market analysis discusses the major drivers and key emerging trends and offers an analysis of key vendors like Anigan, Diva International, The Keeper, Lune, and Mooncup.

According to Amber Chourasia, a lead analyst for health and wellness research at Technavio, “The side effects of other menstrual products is one of the major drivers of the global menstrual cup market. To contain the menstrual flow, women use various menstrual products such as pantyliners, sanitary napkins, and tampons. Even though tampons have several advantages, they may also cause certain harmful side effects to the user.”

The pollutants found in the cotton used in tampons and the chemicals used in the manufacturing of tampons have raised concerns across the globe. Many tampons also use rayon, which is bleached before it is added to the tampon and has been a cause of death of several women. The use of sanitary napkins also has its downfalls. All these side effects have led to the increased adoption of menstrual cups by women. Also, with the approach to a cleaner and greener environment globally, the demand for menstrual cups is expected to increase globally.

Rising number of initiatives by government agencies and vendors

Government initiatives in various countries include educating women about hygiene and convincing them to replace the use of cloth with feminine hygiene products, such as menstrual cups, and explaining the positive effects of their use during menstruation. For instance, the Serithi Campaign was launched in September 2015 with the goal of addressing the problems faced by young girls being unequipped for their menstrual cycle in South Africa.

High brand loyalty of consumers

Consumer brand loyalty is a major factor behind the dominance of brands in the global menstrual cups market. Established market players have a wide customer base, thus making it difficult for private-labels and new entrants to find shelf space for their products in the market. Consumers are more accustomed to private-label brands and gradually get accustomed to them resulting in strong competition from branded product manufacturers. Hence, a rise in the number of private-label brands can positively influence the market during the forecast period.
