Global Aerospace Nanotechnology Market – New Market Research Report

Renewable energy

The global aerospace nanotechnology market was valued at USD 5 billion in 2016 and is expected to surpass USD 6 billion by 2021, says Technavio.

Technavio has announced its latest market research report on the global aerospace nanotechnology market, under its aerospace portfolio. This market analysis discusses the major drivers and key emerging trends and offers an analysis of key vendors like Airbus, Glonatech, Flight Shield, Lockheed Martin, Lufthansa Technik, tripleO Performance Solution, and Zyvex Technologies.

According to Avimanyu Basu, a lead analyst for aerospace research at Technavio, “The adoption of nanostructured thin film of functional materials to offer aerospace coatings have also taken a rise among many suppliers. The trend is spurred by the need to improve the aerodynamic drag profile.”

During the design phase of an aircraft, OEMs invest significantly to make sure the overall aerodynamic drag profile is reduced, and the general performance of an aircraft gets enhanced. Nanotechnology-based coatings allow the manufacturers to achieve this objective. Such coatings are produced from nanoparticles that help in filling thin cracks and imperfections.

Emergence of zero-fuel aircraft

Zero-fuel aircraft use photovoltaic panels that absorb energy from the sun and convert them into energy to thrust the engines. Owing to the growing pressure on the aviation industry to reduce its overall CO₂ emissions, private entities in collaborations with governments are striving to change the approach of using solar technologies and maximize the absorption of solar power. The Solar Impulse 2 (an experimental solar-powered aircraft project funded by a Switzerland-based business personality since 2003) had completed its first trip of 16 hours in May 2016.

Advancements in stealth technology used in airborne platforms

In modern warfare, most of the strategic bombers and combat weapons are designed by stealth technology, so that the survivability and performance of the strategic bombers are enhanced. For example, RAM is primarily used on the edges of metal surfaces of a B-2A bomber to ensure that they absorb the radiated energy released from a radar station and detect any unauthorized flying object.
