Market Research Analysts Predict the Rising Demand for MI Procedures to Drive Growth of the Global Bio-absorbable Stents Market

Renewable energy

The global bio-absorbable stents market was valued at USD 1 billion in 2016 and is expected to surpass USD 3 billion by 2021, says Technavio.

Technavio has announced its latest market research report on the global bio-absorbable stents market, under its orthopedics and medical devices portfolio. This market analysis discusses the major drivers and key emerging trends and offers a competitive analysis of key vendors like Boston Scientific, Abbott Laboratories, Elixir Medical, and Kyoto Medical Planning.

According to Sapna Jha, a lead analyst for orthopedics and medical devices research at Technavio, “Growing demand for minimally invasive procedures will drive growth in the global bio-absorbable stents market. MI endovascular procedures are performed with minute incisions in the body. Such techniques are being increasingly used to treat an aortic aneurysm, stenosis, and plaque in the blood vessel of the heart and other vessel walls of peripheral organs.”

The peripheral vascular procedures are gradually adopted in the treatment of chronic limb ischemia. MI procedures offer faster recovery, lesser pain, fewer post-surgery infections, reduced hospital stays, reduced incision marks, and many other benefits. Hence, surgeons are employing MI method as a procedure for angioplasty.

Advent of metallic stents

Vendors are concentrating on newer technology for developing bioabsorbable stents with advanced features. The use of technology results in the high use of bioabsorbable stents globally. The advances in vascular surgery have shifted focus to developing newer ways to solve the complex clinical problems. The development of new alloys in the manufacture of stents is expected to lead to an increase in the adoption of bioabsorbable stents in the treatment of CADs and PADs.

Growing popularity of hybrid procedures

Hybrid procedure is one of the pioneering approaches, which involves the combination of MI coronary artery bypass surgery (MICABS) with a catheter-based coronary intervention that is percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty or stenting, to cure double or triple vessel CAD. When a bypass surgery is complete, a cardiologist takes over with angioplasty to restore normal blood flow in the arteries. To reduce the chance of re-blockage of the artery, a bare metal stent is used. The hybrid procedure has the best of both the bypass surgery and stenting by using an MI surgical procedure and are therefore beneficial for patients.
