The global motorcycle suspension systems market accounted for 198 million units in 2016 and is expected to surpass 298 million units by 2021, says Technavio.

Technavio has announced its latest market research report on the global motorcycle suspension systems market, under its automotive electronics portfolio. This market analysis discusses the major drivers and key emerging trends and offers an analysis of key vendors like BMW Motorrad, Gabriel India, KYB, and Showa.

According to Sharan Raj, a lead analyst for automotive electronics research at Technavio, “The growth in sports segment motorcycles will push mono suspension demand in the global motorcycle suspension systems market. At present, mono suspension systems have the highest adoption in sports motorcycles, owing to the requirement of better cornering and easy tuning.”

Also, sports motorcycles segment is not price sensitive, so adoption of advancement in the technology will be more in this segment compared to other segments. The demand for sports motorcycles with mono suspension is increasing in the global market owing to the increase in racing enthusiasts, necessitating OEMs such as BMW Motorrad to install mono-suspension in its models. Moreover, performance and long-term value are expected to help boost the sales of sports motorcycles.

Growing demand for dual bending valve front fork technology by automotive OEMs

Recently, dual bending valve front fork technology developed by Showa is gaining significant adoption by automotive OEMs. For instance, Harley-Davidson touring motorcycles will be equipped with SDBV (Showa dual bending valve) front suspensions from 2017 model year range. These suspensions use SDBV structure to give cartridge style fork performance at lower cost and weight compared to full cartridge style forks. The dual bending valve technology reduces weight by 250 grams per unit compared with full cartridge structure.

Rising adoption of Duolever front wheel suspension owing to safety benefits

The front wheel is an important component while cornering motorcycles and front suspension plays a significant role in stabilizing the motorcycle. BMW Motorrad developed the Duolever front suspension for its motorcycles, which gives the highest level of riding precision and accuracy. This suspension separates steering and the damping more consistently than traditional fork suspension. Duolever suspension results in more comfort and road grip that is unmatchable for existing front suspension.
