London, 22 December 2014 – The growing demand for e-passports and national ID cards has resulted in the growth of the Biometrics Market in China, leading to a projected CAGR of 14.8 percent from 2015-2019, says research firm TechNavio.

Mobile-based facial recognition biometrics, which was earlier limited to government use, is in its nascent stage of development. In recent years, there has been substantial growth in mobile-based biometrics and its deployment in smartphones.

Renowned vendors like Apple and Samsung have already introduced some features in their products. Apple has implemented a fingerprint reader in the iPhone 5S and Samsung has introduced face recognition features in its smartphone models.
Additionally, smartcards integrated with biometrics are also offering the advantage of offline authentication and are being frequently used in remote locations. These devices are easily installed in any part of a building without the need for network access.
“Offline authentication does not require any database for accessing details, as all the details are stored on the smart cards, making it a perfect authentication option across industries,” says Ghaus.
