In 2015, the radar-based systems segment dominated the global military ACAS market by accounting for more than 54% of the overall market share. Radar system uses radio waves or microwaves to determine the range and velocity of objects. The transmitter communicates the radio waves and on striking an object, they are reflected back to the receiver. The reflected waves are analyzed to determine the properties of the object. The information gathered is then used to derive the target range, angles, size, speed, and features. 

The key vendors in the global military ACAS market include Honeywell Aerospace, L-3 Communications, Rockwell Collins, SAAB, and Thales Group. In 2014, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems collaborated with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Honeywell to test its first airborne collision avoidance system for unmanned aircraft. It has the capability of automatic collision avoidance and also consists of a sensor fusion, which gives the pilot a clear picture of the traffic around the aircraft.
