The global lyocell fiber market was valued at more than $793 million in 2015 and is expected to surpass $1,157 million by 2020, says Technavio.

Technavio has announced its latest market research report on lyocell fibers for the forecast period, 2016-2020. This market analysis, under the textile, fiber, and composites vertical discusses the major drivers and key emerging trends that will influence the growth of the global lyocell fiber market during the forecast period. Some of the top vendors listed in this industry analysis include Acelon Chemicals & Fiber, City Victor, Chonbang, INVISTA, Lenzing, and Qingdao Textile Group Fiber.

In terms of geographical analysis, APAC is expected to continue its dominance over the global lyocell fiber market and is likely to reach a revenue of almost $741 million by 2020. China and India will emerge as the key revenue-generators.

“Lyocell is becoming increasingly popular as a raw material for the manufacture of non-woven fabrics. It finds widespread application in the manufacture of medical and hygiene non-woven products as it does not contain any toxic compounds that may interact with the medication or with the tissues. The wet resilience capacity of the fabrics plays a crucial role in feminine hygiene products, adult incontinence products, and baby diapers as it can affect the skin,” says Ajay Adikhari, a lead analyst at Technavio for research on textile, fiber, and composites.

The new industry research report from Technavio analyzes some of the key drivers and trends responsible for the growth of this market and its sub-segments.

Increasing demand for lyocell fibers for apparel manufacturing

Lyocell fibers are increasingly used in the manufacture of apparel over other fibers such as rayon and cotton owing to their high absorption efficiency and tenacity. These fibers can exhibit a wide range of characteristics ranging from being silky soft to rough and strong. They can also be dyed to the desired mild to vibrant colors. Stable lycoell fibers are used for manufacturing denim, shirts, suits, chinos, towel, underwear, and casual wear. They are also used in the manufacture of fabrics that are soft and silky. Fabrics made from lyocell fibers are comfortable to wear as they are obtained from natural sources and offer a smooth surface finish. Apparel made of lyocell can also shield the body against extreme humidity by absorbing the moisture accumulated on the body surface, thereby maintaining the body temperature and water balance.

Growing prominence of biodegradable textiles

The global market is currently witnessing an upsurge in the demand for eco-friendly and biodegradable fabrics. The fabrics made of lyocell can be disposed easily by land filling, incineration, or sewage digestion. The lyocell fibers are completely broken down into the end products such as water and carbon dioxide within a week by anaerobic digestion by microorganisms. Furthermore, the manufacturing of lyocell fibers involves non-toxic solvents such as amine oxide, unlike synthetic fibers that require toxic solvents.

Growing demand for lyocell fiber-based home textiles

The global market for lyocell fiber-based home textile market is expected to undergo significant growth during the forecast period. Unlike other fibers materials that cannot absorb the moisture inside the fibers, lyocell fibers absorb moisture quickly making them ideal for use in the manufacture of bedding fabrics. The moisture content in the bed decides the extent to which the bed is electrostatically charged. The lyocell fibers not only absorb excess moisture from the bed, they also lessen the static change and avoid uneasy shocks that are usually experienced during cold conditions.

Some of the other prominent vendors identified in this report are China Populus Textile Limited, Grasim, Great Duksan, Nien Foun Fiber, Sarga Eco-Textile, Smartfiber, Weiqiao Textile Company, and Zhejiang Yaojiang Industrial Group.
