This industry research report presents a detailed segmentation of the global biodiesel market by feedstock such as rapeseed, palm oil, and soybean. It provides market shares analysis and projection for its key regions, including EMEA, Americas, and APAC. Key findings also include an analysis of the leading vendors such as Cosan, Diester, INEOS and Neste Oil.
Technavio market research analysts estimate the global biodiesel market to grow at a CAGR of around 10% between 2015 and 2019. Biodiesel is gaining traction as a mainstream alternate fuel, thanks to technological advances and various government reforms. The EMEA region accounted for the largest market share of around 44% in 2014, due to the EU’s stringent regulations to reduce the GHG emissions. However, the Americas is expected to lead the market in 2019 with top biodiesel producers as the US, Brazil and Argentina. The region is estimated to produce around 5 billion gallons of biodiesel by 2019, owing to large arable area producing the feedstock for biodiesel.
The rapeseed segment dominates the biodiesel market with a market share of around 40%. It is the most used feedstock in the production of biodiesel due to its easy availability. The biodiesel produced by using rapeseed has a lower freezing point and makes it more suitable for usage in colder regions. The production of biodiesel with rapeseed oil is expected to reach over 5 billion gallons by 2019.

“With the rise in environmental and energy security concerns, governments across the globe are imposing stringent regulations, which has triggered the demand for renewable fuels such as biodiesel. The global transportation fuel demand is expected to rise by 55% by 2030, thereby increasing the demand for biofuels. In countries like Germany and India, the governments are supervising the use of biodiesel in their public transport system. Likewise, EU set within the renewable energy directive (RED) is aiming to have 10% of the transportation system use 6%-7% renewable energy specifically from biofuels to achieve 20% of the energy mix by 2020,” says Navin Rajendra, Lead Analyst, Energy, Technavio Research.
The leading vendors in the global biodiesel market are Cosan, Diester, INEOS, Neste Oil and Renewable Energy. The market in the EMEA region is fragmented, whereas the market in the Americas is dominated by large and established players.
