Driver State Monitoring Systems: Key market research findings
- Growing inclination towards cost reduction of DSMS
- Technological advancements in DSMS for improved road safety
Technavio has added a new market research report on the global automotive driver state monitoring systems market, to its automotive portfolio. The global automotive driver state monitoring systems (DSMS) market is expected to reach over 120 million production units between 2015 and 2019, due to increased fatalities and road crash incidents. The APAC region is estimated to witness significant growth in the DSMS market because of major passenger car manufacturers, such as Hyundai and Kia, planning to implement DSMS systems in almost all of their models.
The new industry research report from Technavio discusses in detail the key drivers and trends responsible for growth, as well as the segments with the maximum growth potential.
“The usage of DSMS is restricted to luxury cars and a very small section of HCVs and LCVs, due to the high installation costs of these systems. However, of late, the demand for DSMS is gaining huge prominence among customers owing to increasing concerns on automobile safety and government regulations. Various manufacturers are coming up with new systems by using cheaper and efficient parts and small chipsets, and simplifying the procedures to minimise manufacturing costs,” says Sriram Mohan, Lead Analyst, Automotive, Technavio Research.
DSMS prevents collisions and ensures road safety by monitoring the driver condition in real time and sending a warning signal immediately. Manufacturers are offering various DSMS systems like drowsiness monitor, attention assist system, driver alert system, and fatigue detection system for the customers’ benefit. Technavio’s market research analysts estimate that the adoption of DSMS reduces road accidents by around 20%. Also, manufacturers are focusing on developing non-intrusive systems, which measure driver state by eye blink count, eye closure, and head movement.
The key vendors in the global automotive driver state monitoring systems market are Continental, Seeing Machines, Tobii, Takata, and Aisin Seiki. Many manufacturers are intensifying investments in R&D to reduce the production cost. Ongoing efforts are focused on to making DSMS available for mid-segment cars as well. Companies like Delphi, Toyota, and GM have plans to increase their DSMS implementation to most of their models post 2017.
