Innovative Ways in Which APAC Countries Are Using CAD

IT security solutions

One of the greatest developments in the design and modelling industry is the use of computer-aided design or CAD. CAD is essentially a combination of hardware and software that enables the creation of accurate technical illustrations and designs. CAD is widely used by architects, drafters, engineers and artists to create 2D and 3D models.

Due to its applicability across a variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace & defense, industrial machinery, and electrical & electronics, the CAD market has expanded globally. APAC specifically is witnessing immense growth in the market. According to analysts at Technavio, the CAD market in APAC will achieve revenue of more than USD $3 billion by 2020.

Automotive industry

CAD plays a very important role in the automotive industry. Passenger cars, light commercial vehicles such as mini trucks and mini buses, and heavy vehicles such as trucks, have all benefited from CAD when it comes to ergonomic design. Every single APAC nation is making the most of CAD systems and investing heavily in research and development. China, for example, is facing massive demand for new energy vehicles, an area in which CAD will be immensely beneficial. Likewise, in South Korea, automobile and component manufacturers are increasingly switching to CAD systems to create large and complex 3D images of components in a short period of time. And Japan, which has one of the largest automobile industries in the world, uses CAD to meet the high demand for environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient cars.

Electrical and electronics industry

Another industry which has immeasurably benefitted from CAD is the electrical and electronics industry. The use of CAD has led to reduced time in product design, development, and manufacturing, and has made the entire process more cost-effective. With the emergence of concepts like cross-device CAD, many smartphone manufacturers are integrating CAD software into their devices. China, a major player in the electrical and electronics industry, is finding that the growth of the smartphone industry is driving the CAD market.

Aerospace and defense industry

The APAC nations are continuously investing in strengthening their defense. India, Japan, China, Singapore and Malaysia are heavily financing the development of modern intelligent defense equipment. CAD is used in designing aerospace vehicles, including launch vehicles, combat and non-combat aircraft, missiles, and submarines. It is also used to simulate aerodynamic loads, stability derivatives, air flow analysis, flow measurement analysis, and store trajectory analysis. CAD systems also allow for highly optimized component designs, reduce the cost of physical tests, and reduce the time needed to design aircrafts.

Dassault Systèmes, PTC, Siemens PLM Software, Mentor Graphics and Autodesk are some of the leading vendors in the CAD market in APAC.
